Critique from Author Kate Messner (Contemp Realistic)

“If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where
they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay
alive.” – Barry Lopez, Crow and Weasel

I’m not sure if this quote has ever been more true in our American education
system. Kids from impoverished schools need hope.  They need to know that
they can shape their futures with hope and hard work, and as a teacher, I
know that books can provide that hope, that window to what might be.  A
child who reads book has an enormous advantage, a chance to do and be
anything.  That’s quite a gift…

The Prize: One critique of the first five double-spaced pages of either your middle
grade or young adult novel, or a critique of a picture book manuscript (1000
words or less).
