Say “Show Me the Money!” and Briarglen gets 10 cents!”
As part of the Library Lovin’ challenge organized by writerjenn, I’m raising money to support Briarglen Elementary’s Library ELL and Special Education program! Briarglen, a Title 1 school in my home school district, will receive a number of Playaways to help ELL students and struggling/reluctant readers improve their language skills while growing their love for books. You can read more about Playaways from Follett Educational Services and Findaway World, creator of Playaway.
So get on it by leaving a comment below.
Or if you want, you can read why I am so passionate about libraries …
Libraries got me through what could have been “the ultimate boring childhood.” I wasn’t the richest kid, growing up, and the opportunity to buy new books, hot off the shelves at the local bookstore, never really presented itself until I graduated college. In fact, my personal library as a tween was very much like Paris Pan’s stash in PARIS PAN TAKES THE DARE (coming in June, 2009). My collection was made entirely of library discards, garage sales, and whatever my mother could get for under $1. As a result, I spent endless hours at the library. Only at the library, could I find the latest books on the stuff I loved–fiction novels featuring animals, ghost stories, and of course, the important stuff I did not want to learn from any Liu. I still remember the nonfiction books I checked out about my “changing body” and “how babies are made” that ultimately helped me navigate my parents’ bizarre explanations that making babies actually involved tadpoles and Alaskan salmon migration. (See Chapter 14, PARIS PAN TAKES THE DARE).
At any rate, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all libraries who serve children and teens, who, like me, need good books for entertainment and solid parental advice.

To all you blooming writers who just got new dictionaries for your class, good luck and have a ball playing with new and old words. They’re amazing creatures who do just what you want them to.
Now, Cynthea, show me the money.
Oh, how I love libraries. They are magical places. I remember that as a kid, I tried reading all the books in the kids’ section, starting with the authors whose last names started with an A. Then, I remember taking my three kids to the library regularly, always coming home with about 30 books. (All of my grown children are voracious readers still.) In my current stage of life, I go regularly to devour the newest books for kids as I continue to work on my own juvenile novels. Libraries rock!
Libraries are my true home.
I can still smell the good old wood in my hometown library, and the shelves of delicious books just waiting for me…
I love libraries so much, I now run one in addition to my day job. Sharing the love of reading with children and young people gives me more than I think I give to them.
Kudos to what you are doing.
SHOW ME THE MONEY!!! The library is my home away from home and my full time job. I hope the money rolls in – libraries can’t survive without programs like this that help fill the shelves!
Show me the money for the kids!!!
When I was a child the Bookmobile came to my school every week! Loved checking out books to read…especially in the summer. I would sit at home cooled by a water cooler (does that date me?) and read to my heart’s content. Reading is one of my ways to escape the stress of the world. Don’t understand children today to DON”T like to read. Need to help out those school libraries.
Show me the Money!!!
I can’t remember how many hours I’ve happily spent perusing the shelves of libraries the world over. I can’t imagine getting by with out them. I love libraries, love books and the worlds they let me visit.
Oh, almost forgot, “Cynthea, SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!”

Cheers! Show me the money!

Love this contest! Love libraries! Great job, Cynthea!
I find a place of refuge at the Library. Peace, quiet, and solitude can be found there. After a hard day with the kids and all the demands that everyone puts on me, vegging at the library is truly the best form of relaxation on earth. I can thumb through my favorite magazines, copy some recipes and read some fun articles on whatever I may be into at the time.
Great cause!
Libraries are the bomb!
I love taking my grandchildren to the library!
Libraries open new worlds to everyone. My library card is far more valuable than my credit card.
What would I do without the library? Seriously.
Libraries are better than treasure hunts!
Libraries and books make the world go round!
Libraries are better than bookstores. The books are free!! and free is great!!
Libraries are fun!
I hope that my future grandchildren will be able to go to their Library, check out a paper or hard back book, and climb into a tree to read in silence, just as I did! My library card was my ticket into so many wonderful worlds!
Libraries have soul!
Show me the money! =P
Libraries are where writers are born
way to go!
The hush of a library calms the soul.
Where else besides a library can we go to escape to another world, learn about any subject of interest, live through another’s adventures, and delight in another’s words? Libraries are the most needed and least valued in many people’s hearts.
Show me the money, we need our libraries!
Yay for libraries.
Libraries rock!A Library card is a ticket to adventure.

I love libraries! When my kids were young, we would go regularly and come out with about 30 books. I paid a lot of fines, but it was worth it!
